A small rule for buying things
Do I want this object, or do I want the imagined life arranged around it?
Before buying something, wait long enough for the fantasy around it to disappear.
Then ask:
1. Where will it live? 2. What will it replace? 3. Would I still want it if nobody saw it?
The useful object usually survives the questions.
